Alignment with Brand
We design with brand consistency to build trust and recognition.
The principle
Every pixel carries voice. The button you tap, the copy you read, the silence between sections — they all add up to a statement about who the company is. There is no such thing as a neutral design choice.
Design without brand alignment looks like talent in service of nothing. Design with it accrues. Each new screen reinforces the last, and the product becomes recognizable on sight, even before the logo lands.
Brand consistency is not aesthetic preference. It is the compounding interest of design — small, repeated, deliberate choices that, over a year of shipping, turn into trust.
Rules of the craft
Three tenets we work by.
- 01
Treat the brand as a constraint, not a coat of paint
Apply it from layout up, not from polish down. A brand that only lives in the logo color and the font has already lost the argument with the product team that's about to override it.
- 02
Codify what's distinctive
The voice, the spacing, the tonal moves — write them down so the next designer keeps them. If it lives in someone's head, it leaves when they do.
- 03
Resist invention at the margins
Trust the system. Variations should be deliberate, not the product of stylistic boredom on a Friday afternoon. New patterns earn their place; they don't slip in.
“A brand is what's still recognizable after the logo is removed.”
How it shows up
What this looks like, week to week.
- Living design system
- We maintain a tooling-backed source of truth — not a static PDF. Engineering consumes it directly so 'we have a design system' actually means something at the codebase level.
- Consistency audits
- Every review flags off-system fonts, colors, and spacing. Each variance gets named and either justified into the system or removed. The receipts live in the design system changelog.
- Copy alongside layout
- Tone is half the brand; we don't outsource it to whoever owns the CMS. Voice gets designed at the same time as the visual — together, or not at all.
